Doctor Who: Fear is temporary, but Love is slavery. Is it better to be loved or feared? in TV SHOWS
in the episode 7 of 10th season of Doctor Who, the Doctor made an interesting quote "Fear is temporary, but Love is slavery". That is similar to a long standing debate is it better for leaders to be loved or feared. Looking at various leaders in history of the World, what do you think?
Fear is a key component of many dictatorships, but it is often coupled with ideolization. What comes to mind are all the communist dictators especially Lenin, Stalin. Even in many religions God is to be obeyed and feared - as well as loved. So fear is the cornerstone, but it cannot be coupled with hate, dislike, etc - coupling it with some form of brainwashed love is much more powerful
I choose love because it is just far more important in the Bible. Though fearing God is in there, that is much more out of a respect fear by understanding He controls your future and eternity. Being feared is not more important for us, and honestly love is more important with God anyways.
